  2. We have PAL, SPA, class tests, graded assignments etc which are a hybrid of summative and formative. 6 per term. (still discussing)

  3. Theories and concepts explained, directed to whole class. Address questions when time allow more in depth

  4. Formative assessments: Feedback needs more improvements. E.g. Composition writing was given feedback 1-to-1 is quite idealistic. Nevertheless, writing little notes on the composition after marking did help the students to write better essay the next time round.

Another way is to share good composition and acceptable unique plots that is aligned to values and desirable students outcomes.

Students need to taste success and such formative assessment will assist students in attaining such sweet success.

Formative assessment can be any form of assessment as long as feedback is provided that is not included in the CA/SA

We realise that certain activities such as bus-stop/group works are actually formative activities that should not be in the final assessment.

    Art:
    We agree too.

    D&T:

  6. feedback for formative assessment...need to improve the quality of feedback....
possibly for essays to indicate the comments along the essay rather than at the end of the essay.

both quality and quantity of formative assessment is important

  7. Formative assessment allows students to explore new ways of thinking/processes without fear of being penalised. It motivates & rewards creativity. - Li Ling

Can there be a hybrid, summative or formative assessment?

We have PAL tests. We believed that it is a form of hybrid model assessment as the assessment result contributes to the students' final result. We also spent time going through and explaining to the students their areas of weaknesses via these tests.

  10. Noted:
Also learned now that summative is a test of understanding, while formative is a test of learning.

    P.S Peanuts are nice. ^_^

  11. How do we gauge too much of formative is enough and how do we ensure that at the end of the day, summative accounts more and it is the bigger component for overall national exam

    ReplyDelete
  12. what is required is a BALANCE...formative to guide and help the learning. Summative assessment is a requirement of the National exam

  13. Focused learning is a good idea. Useful in pin-pointing the students who needs help.

  14. CRI heavily relies on the honesty of the student when they answer the questions.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The 3 tiered questions inclusive of CRI is gd but the accurancy of the analysis is very much based on the integrity of the respondants for sharing the truth of the CRI

  16. CRI MCQ is meant for formative or summative?- WHEY

How do we group students in exam who has both lack of knowledge and misconceptions? - WAN YING

  17. Do we need to include the CRI in our formative assmt?

  18. More often than not, we are facing classes of students who seems like having a false feeling that they know the right answers! BUT in reality, they are NOT!

CRI could be used for open-ended comprehension questions - in determining students' ability in understanding and answering different question types.

How could CRI be used in essay writing?

    ReplyDelete
  20. How do we balance the 3rd tier or even 2nd tier to execute the analysis? Time consuming yet effective. UNLESS we have a computer-generated assisting software.

HOw does this applicable to Language department? Which component might be relevant? Grammar? Vocabulary? Open-ended comprehension?

  21. How and where do we get the database questions? - Michelle

  22. We do find the CRI idea very interesting.
But can it be applied to other forms of questions instead of MCQ?

For the question, it is possible to list down process instead of answers as the 4 options?

  23. Here is a suggestion. After lunch, can people change seats? People who have to turn their backs to face the presenter can change with those that do not. It very tiring for this group of people. Further, the positions of the groups can also change. It is a well known observation that different seating arrangement affect the effectiveness of learning. The round table arrangement is definitely not conducive for long periods of lecture time. Thanks people. Let's do something revolutionary!

  24. How about using negative marking for wrong answer during MCQ? For Eg: every wrong answer, deduct 1/4 mark. This prevents guessing.
This method is used for MCQs for professional exams (CEHA, insurance agents etc) and psych exams at uni.

  25. Perhaps another way to test CRI might be playing the point system. Correct ans-3pts: Wrong ans: 0 pts awarded; No answer: -ve 5 points

  28. 3 things that have we learnt?
    * DI & FI can be implemented only with knowledge of student's profile.
    * Student's profile survey, conversation and assignments
    * Hybrid Formative assessment will ensure students to taste success.

CRI - might need more exploration for Language teachers.

  29. MTL teachers have always imbibed the social-emotional learning deliberately when values are shared in daily teaching and learning. This is in addition to reflections. Both teacher and students, after every lesson.
