CHALLENGE 2 (FOR GROUPS F - J) How can we infuse SEL assessment into curriculum? DO we do it only for one-off projects like IPW or do we continously assess students throughout the year?
SEL can be done in formative component part of assessment. Assuming doing class project/ group work/etc, rubrics to be given to assess self and peers Look at How many competencies you want to look at?
Groupwork - rubric A Self-assessment - rubric B
For daily work, teachers can assess punctuality, daily work and effort.
In short, rubrics available stating what sel component will be tested on.
Some ways to infuse SEL assessment into curriculum? - Contribution in community-based projects - CIP initiatives by students - A rubrics, eg. on learning attitude, work submission assessed by subject teachers? - Students' reflection - on process of learning, content/what is learnt; learning from classmates/teachers - Journal (eg. assess self awareness)
We cannot infuse into SEL assessment throughout the year, but it could be a SEASONAL assessment. Some examples of SEL that has been incorporated into the curriculum includes (for language subjects) setting open-ended questions at the end of comprehensions, setting composition and journal assignments that address specific SEL components. Also, PE already has a 30% SEL component.
Nevertheless, SEL is developmental. It cannot be assessed within 1-4 years. Question of integrity or doing it right for the sake of just to do it right on the student part will arise.
